Puerto Plata, is the third-largest city in the Dominican Republic with close to One Million inhabitants. Puerto Plata has resorts such as Playa Dorada and Costa Dorada, which are located east of town. There are 100,000 hotel beds in the city. The fortification "Fortaleza San Felipe," which was built in the 16th century and served as a prison under Rafael Trujillo's dictatorship, lies close to the port. La Isabela, a settlement built by Christopher Columbus, is located nearby.
With its incredible golden sand beaches and a mountainous natural landscape, combined with turquoise colored water, Puerto Plata is fast becoming the newest global tourist destination. It has an international airport, which receives daily and weekly passengers from the U.S. (Charlotte, Miami, New York), Canada, Europe, and elsewhere. In 2015 Carnival Cruise Line spent $85 million on their new cruise port called Amber Cove.
Torre Alta sits in the heart of the city, located a few hundred feet above sea level, on the side of "Pico Isabel de Torres," a 2600-foot high mountain within the city. Comprised of middle-class families, REIT Investments has already signed a contract on the land and has begun surveys and architectural work. The legal process takes between 4-5 months to receive permission to start building. The complex comprises two and three-bedroom rental units with parking for Dominican Nationals and long-term American and European renters. It is within walking distance of shopping and entertainment and only minutes from the beautiful beaches that line the Malecon ("front street"), complete with bars and restaurants.
10% of the units will receive financial assistance grants and guarantees to ensure we raise lower-income families out of terrible living conditions.
